becoming a photographer?

i love taking pictures of my daughter. i do the holiday pictures myself with my digital camera and then take it to walmart to have the different sizes printed out. it is cheaper and more fun than going to a studio.

i want to start a photography business where i do just that. and also go to weddings and baby showers, ect. and create albums and stuff witht he photos. i have a program on my laptop that lets me add background pictures and frames and it comes out oerfectly at walmart. any idea how i ca get started? i wouldnt have a studio to start, just my home and go to other people’s homes. my prices would be cheaper than most studios.
i am willing to go to school for this but was wondering how i can get started beforehand. i have a good talent for taking pictures and making memories last using pictures. i dont have a lot of money to get started, but have a few family memebers who may be willing to help if it seems like a good thing to get started.

These are hot holiday items…and there are a lot of "cheap" no-name ones out because of this. I have seen many at Brookstone, Sharper Image, and other lower quality ones, and looking for some suggestions from people who OWN them. I am looking for around an 8" (0 range) but one that preferably takes high capacity SD cards (newer SDHC >4GB cards) – but also must be GOOD resolution (I have seen plenty of poor quality images in the cheaper ones that you can see dithering). I actually bought a couple of Aluratek 11" frames that have 1GB internal memory, but returned them in less than 24 hrs because transferring photos by USB was horrendously painful and many times did not recognize the device when plugged in the computer. I have learned my lesson, and want to look for a better quality one. THANKS!

I’m planning on getting large prints of our Bloodhound for my fiances new office.
My plan was one of her at 3 months (which I cannot find the negative for, but I do have the picture) and one of her now (at 3 years – which would be done with a non-digital 35 mm lens).
My question is – what is the best and cheapest way to do this to get a quality product – I would like it to be done on canvas or something that would not need immediate framing. However, if this cannot be done at a reasonable price (Walmart has photo canvas 16×20 for just over ) how would you suggest I accomplish this?

My mom threw in the suggestion that I get a black and white print of the dog divided into three separate canvases that would, of course, go next to each other on the wall. However, that sounds really. really. expensive for someone fresh out of college like myself.

Basically, I’ve never done anything like this, although I love photography and it was a hobby of mine when I was younger. Any suggestions you could give on where to go, pricing, etc, would really help me out – and let me know how much Ramen Noodles I’ll be eating next month.
Holy moly – You are amazing! I’ll definitely practice a small one first.

Thank you!

Somewhat confusing, but I’m comparing these two Gateway systems. I’m looking to spend under 0. I need the system to serve two Virtual Servers and still allow me to use the servers for development, surfing and media processing. I’m noting the Intel one has DDR3 vs DDR2. But is the Intel really only Dual Core vs Quad Core on the cheaper system? There is a 0 price difference between the two. Worth it?

How can I get pictures on an SD card?

My wife just got one of those Digital Picture Frames. I Assumed that it would just plug into a USB port and you could transfer it over.
When she got it home i realized that it only accepts SD/MS/MMC/XD cards.

I do not have any of those.

Can someone advise me what the cheapest and simplest way to get some photos on this for my wife please.
Thank you

I bought a cheap+cheerful framed print from a DIY shop, all others for sale were by Van Gogh, Monet etc but I cannot identify this one! The name at the bottom is partly obscured but looks like R H Bertram. It is of a field of sunflowers with a village and mountain behind, has a definite South of France feel to it. I have done searches by name, era, style etc, but am still no closer to an answer. I have taken a digital photo and wonder if I could upload it somewhere in the hope that it is as well-known as the others for sale in the same shop!

SO I have been into video creation for awhile, and I finally got me some nice software for the editing but, the sad part is is that I am so limited in choices and quality because my camera that I use to record my videos with is a digital still-photo camera that just happens to have a record feature on it, but it only gets 30FPS and pixel quality is terrible!
Camcorder doesn’t cut it either since I want quality. Not saying that ALL camcorders are HORRIBLE but they tend not to offer some of the things I am looking for, and so I am trying to do research on a good amateur recording camera, but I just can’t find anything. so far I like both the Canon XL2 for a couple reasons: 1 I Trust canon with good quality products because my Digital SLR and still-frame point-and-shoot are both Canon products, plus it has th ability to buy more lenses for later when I may need a separate Lens. and its somewhat cheap.
While on the other hand the Panasonic DVX 100a is a good offer too (and, excuse my videography illiteracy but, it has a cover over the mic to block wind out.)
so (and it doesn’t have to be these two cameras) what exactly do you guys recommend for a amateur like me?

I’ve got about 200usd set aside for my mum and i’m not sure which of these to get.

A one hour deep tissue massage at the four seasons. I’m not so sure about this since there are cheaper alternatives and my mum would not enjoy it as much knowing how much it costs..

An ugly betty season one dvd and some womens facial products. Since she seems to like the series..

A nike sports watch and womens facial products. since she goes to the gym a lot…

or

A digital photo frame so she can look at pics at work.. this would also be nice but she already has a laptop for looking at pics, maybe she could take it to work with her..

Any input or suggestions would be appreciated..

What should i get my mom for christmas?

Ok, so at first i was planning on getting my mom a Digital Photo Frame, but just last night my dad was reading the newspaper and said "What about a digital photo frame?" to my mom! and she said "nah, they are just going to get cheaper later i dont need one." so THAT idea is gone. and no bath stuff please, because my brother is already getting her this stress relief thing from bath and body works.

My mom is a medical transcriptionist (writes up records for doctors.) and she works at home. NOT good with tech-y stuff really. Likes to relax, and she does so by taking baths. But i feel like i get her bath stuff EVERY YEAR. and my brother already got her a stress relief bath and body works gift basket. umm likes to cook. not really into knitting, crocheting or any of that stuff. likes sewing, but doesnt really have much time anymore because shes really busy. very into nature, and she likes taking walks and stuff. She grew up in the country, and lived on a farm. likes to watch movies, especially comedy movies. adores chocolate, coffee and diet coke. likes to be comfy. HATES traveling. obssessed with making sure the house is clean.

what should i buy for a wedding gift?

here’s the background on it http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Au4AffZv6H38zdFoRuCcxa7sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20090518102734AAoUxdW i got invited to a wedding for a woman that has worked with my hubby for 5 yrs, but never comes to any of the stuff everyone that works there does, we have parties, little get together etc, she never comes, when they had my shower and they were doing a group present she said buying baby gifts is a waste of money

anyway she told him yesterday her wedding was sat, and he told her our baby is sick, and she said oh well then i guess you won’t be there, here’s where we are registered, and she gave him a copy of the places she’s registered at, i was like what? she’s worked with him for over 5 yrs, and never had a conversation with him before.

but i decided to be the bigger person and buy her a gift, he does work with her and it’s the right thing to do (i think) so what should i buy her, i don’t want to that much, yes i’m cheap, but i’ve had 2 baby showers she’s never bought anything for either one of them, 3 other people that work there got married and she didn’t get them gifts, one person had a baby recently and she didn’t even get her a card, so why should i spend the usual on her, she sent an email inviting my husband, didn’t even include me on it, and he’d already told her our 15 month old baby is sick, so i’m not wanting to that much

i was thinking 1-a digital photo frame
2-a nice serving set
3-a nice photo album

that’s it i got nothing else

some details she has lived with the man she’s marrying for 13 yrs, so they not only own their house but i figure they have set it up how they like it.

thank you so much.

Using LCDs as Monitors?

I’m doing a modding project and I need some help with finding a very small monitor. I want a cheap (less than seventy dollars) monitor for this project. It can’t be very deep either (I would prefer flat screen). The screen needs to be between two and ten inches (slightly bigger is fine). Here are some questions:

1) Can I use the LCD from a digital photo frame as a monitor (with soldering and such).
2) If so can you please provide some information on how to do so.
3) Are there any other small LCDs I can mod to use as a monitor and if so how?

My only working option right now is to buy a handheld TV player and somehow get S-VIDEO hookups to output to it’s small screen.

Thank you,

Vainentree

First of all: my budget is up to 0 (Christmas and his b-day are comming too!!) do not say clothes because he is overweight and i don’t want to make him feel bad if I buy something too big or too small I know his size but not all clothes are the same :) . I was going to buy him a digital photo-frame with pictures of us in it… Duh! The new lacoste perfume ( mmmm it smells so good!!) and a 0 Sony store gift card… He’s really in to electronics, but I had that in mind like 4 months ago and like 3 months ago he started his own bussiness selling electronics ( cellphones, computers, mp3, pendrives, digital photo frames!!! Ect) now I can’t buy him the photo frame because he told me if you need a digital photo frame ask me because I can find them really cute and cheap and I can’t buy it from him because he would not sell it to me, he likes to pay everything. I can’t buy him the gift card because… He sells the same electronics that the Sony store sells. And like 3 days ago he told me… In Christmas all my family members gave me perfumes, that’s like 9 bottles of perfume that I got here… And there all almost new!… So that’s a no to the lacoste perfume….. What should I get him??

many questions….read the detail please?

I think I know now how to get pictures from my computer onto my 7" digital photo frame. Apparently I need to get a USB flash drive (which did not come with my frame). Wal-Mart should carry some USB flash drives, right? Also, what’s the cheapest you can get a good USB flash drive for a 7" digital photo frame? And finally, how does it work?

The Big Brother TV production team have contacted you to analyse whether their show could be broadcast using UHSatellite which is limited at 6,000,000 bits per second per TV channel. Big Brother cameramen now use HD digital cameras and only one is broadcast at a time. High Definition is used to have a closer look at the action. The resolution for each frame consists of Y = 1440 ´ 1080, Cb = Cr = 720 ´ 540, each pixel is quantised using 8 bits and the frame rate is 25 frames per second.

1.1 Given the resolution above, what is the size of a full uncompressed frame (in bits)?

1.2 The digital video signal is then MPEG encoded. You are told that the group of pictures (GOP) span N=12 and the prediction span M=4. With this information, use a diagram to show the frame sequence. Describe the frame types that are found in MPEG encoding.

1.3 Taking this into account, how many GOPs are streamed on average in 1 second?

The production team has given you the following table stating the average compression for each frame:

I-frame 10:1
P-frame 20:1
B-frame 60:1

1.4 Using this information, what is the size of a GOP (in bits)?

1.5 Knowing the size of the GOP, calculate the bit rate that will be generated by the encoder.

1.6 Finally, from the results above, comment on whether you would recommend UHSatellite to broadcast Big Brother.

…I don’t want to wait to take next picture!
I read the section on the "fastest" cameras, but concerned shutter speed. I’m just don’t want to wait for the camera to fully imprint the image onto my Kingston memory card before taking the next picture. I’ll be taking photos of Chinese text in a library and want to go fast as I turn the pages. Ideally, I’d like it to be small so I can use it just for fun (not a pro photographer at all) and as cheap as possible. Other than that, the standard 6.0 megapix is fine. I don’t need anything fancy. Thanks!!
